Just kidding. The ASA, as always, takes every complaint seriously and investigates each one, meaning it examined eight potentially offensive ads from last October to see which ones were porny, which were overly sexual, which were exploitative and which were all of the above.

And as you will be unsurprised to learn, . A few, shown below, were axed for gratuitous nudity; a few more were deemed "exploitative" for sexualizing young women. And all but one were judged as being irresponsible "to consumers and to society" for their voyeuristic quality.

In conclusion, , "We told AA not to use similar images which were exploitative of women or that inappropriately sexualised young women in future."

Arnold Schwarzenegger's memoir, has been on shelves for fewer than 24 hours and already the former governor is making substantial money from telling his story. And it could likely have made him even more, had he not been so frightened about leaks.

"A number of major publishers weren't even given the opportunity to look at this," one major publisher tells me. "It might have been given as an exclusive or it might have been pre-empted, so we don't know exactly what it went for, but it's fair to say several million."

Because the book wasn't put up for all the major publishing houses to bid on, Schwarzenegger will never really know what the value of the work would have been in a competitive situation.

"They may be leaving significant dollars on the table as the agent and author have less information from the various publishers when they get to the stage of negotiating business terms of the contract," one insider tells me. "But this way of selling a book comes with many advantages. Content leaks are kept to a very minimum, if at all, plus, the author doesn't have to pimp himself to 10 or 15 publishing groups with each meeting [at his level] probably having at least a dozen gawkers in the room. In my opinion, most exclusives or deals are made when the agent only brings in one or two publishers who are associated with deals that have more sizzle in the proposal than punch in final book form. Of course, there are others that become major books, like Clinton's.”

LOS ANGELES -- Tony Award-winning actor Ben Vereen has filed for divorce from his wife of 36 years.

Court records in Los Angeles show Vereen filed the petition on Thursday, citing irreconcilable differences. The actor-dancer married wife Nancy Bruner Vereen in July 1976, although his filing states the pair separated in March.

The 65-year-old won a best actor in a musical Tony Award in 1973 for his role in "Pippin" and he appeared in numerous films and television series. I gotta say if my 12-year old son asked for that I would give a definite "No!" That's too young for "romantic" kissing. Even if she just smooched him quick, we all know what he was going for. We applaud this kid for his "precociousness," but if a 12 year old girl wanted a first kiss from Keith Urban or Hank Williams Jr. we'd be up in arms over it. We would not think it was either cute or sweet. This double standard is ruining women and causing untold problems between the sexes in adulthood. Sex lasts a lifetime. Why rush it?

Earlier this year, Madonna for her references to MDMA, the active chemical in ecstasy, both and in the title of her latest album, MDNA, a sly pun on the illicit substance. But few blinked an eye when Jay-Z rapped that “MDMA got you feelin' like a champion” on 2009’s beloved Big Apple anthem “Empire State of Mind.”

And news that Kanye West debuted a track called generated countless headlines this month, despite the fact that the song has yet to be released. Meanwhile, Kanye’s “Watch the Throne” collaborator Jay-Z is more often portrayed as these days, even though he’s used the derogatory term for years and recently denied reports that he plans to stop. He’s got 99 problems, but bad PR isn’t one.

So, why is it that certain stars come under fire more readily than others?

“The media and celebrities together create personas for people” said Ronn Torossian, CEO of one of the 25 largest public relations firms in the country. “Jay-Z is the drug dealer made good. He’s married to Beyonce, and the perception of Jay-Z today is that he’s a good guy, so even if there was a rumor about him, say, cheating on Beyonce, that story would be less apt to run than one about a playboy.”

Torossian notes that celebrities have varying levels of leeway based on the image they’ve cultivated. “Both Madonna and Kanye West are people who say or do outrageous things, and of course it’s going to follow them,” he said. “Once you court controversy and you’re seen as a scandalous person, it’s hard to get away from that.”

And of course, it’s hard to expunge the image of Kanye unceremoniously disrupting three years ago at the MTV Video Music Awards. “In a sense, that’s pop culture history,” Torossian said. “It’s a great visual. I think it’s going to be hard for him, at least in the next four or five years, to overcome it.”

And then there’s his very public romance with a certain . “If you’re not courting controversy, then clearly Kim Kardashian isn’t the person to be involved in a relationship with,” Torossian said.

But it’s Jay-Z’s love life that has taken his image in the opposite direction. “If Jay-Z wasn’t married to Beyonce, his brand would be much different,” Torossian said. “His career trajectory would be much different. Imagine if 50 Cent was married to Halle Berry, what his brand would look like. You take Jay-Z, who’s a reformed drug dealer and he’s now pictured with Warren Buffett and the president of the United States.”

Torossian observes that people mellow with age. And for those who bid adieu to their provocative antics early on, there is hope: “Angelina Jolie, only a few years ago, was making out with her brother on the red carpet. She was walking around with a vial of Billy Bob Thornton’s blood around her neck. And then she took Jennifer Aniston’s husband. And she’s not seen as scandalous. She’s a responsible person.”

But Jolie’s transformation from wild child to humanitarian role model has been a gradual change aided by her charitable work and maternal image. “She and Brad Pitt are clearly really in love,” Torossian said. “It’s harder to bash someone when they’re constantly helping people and giving back, and it’s not just for the cameras. It’s authentic, and you see it. Every picture you see is of her holding hands with a flock of children.”

While Jolie managed to tone down her image early on, Madonna is as incendiary as ever at 54 years old. “There are certain people who, once you hit a certain age and you’re still seen as wild, you’re still seen as scandalous, it’s hard to overcome it. Once you pass that mid-20s range, your ability to change your brand gets harder,” Torossian said, adding that, for a young star like Kristen Stewart, who is currently embroiled in a cheating scandal, a public relations disaster is much easier to overcome. “If you take someone like Stewart, who is a 20-something-year-old girl, in three, four, five years, can she change her brand? Absolutely.”

Sometimes, of course, it’s difficult to pinpoint exactly why celebrities elicit the reactions they do -- which can make it harder to shake a problematic persona.

“They call us spin doctors, and as for a medical doctor, every patient is very, very different," said Howard Bragman, longtime Hollywood publicist and vice chairman of . “You can have 100 patients and give them a drug and 99 will be cured, and one will drop dead. Everybody has different DNA, with the public and with the media.”

Various factors come into play with regard to how stars are judged. “A lot of it is their history, a lot of it is expectation. Some of it is who their core audience is. Some of it can be racist. Some of it is sexist. There’s a million different reasons,” Bragman said, noting it's these factors that can make a publicist’s job complicated. “It’s a reason why PR work has to be very specific to the client. You can’t just throw out a program and say ‘here’s how we handle this.’ Because it doesn’t work that way in this world.”

Adam Hanft, CEO of and a Huffington Post contributor, says it’s possible for celebrities to reinvent themselves through a combination of what he calls “the three H's": humility, humor and hard work.

“Americans want to see modesty and contrition, if appropriate,” Hanft said. “We want to see a sense of humor, because self-deprecation is something we all value. And we want to see hard work, meaning that someone spends serious time and effort at both their craft and at giving back. Sean Penn is a good example. He's had huge issues with the media, but his reputation is strong because the work he's done in Haiti shows deep commitment. He hasn't been a phone-it-in celebrity volunteer.”

And as for Madonna and Jay-Z, Hanft observes, “I think there's a strain of misogynism at work here. Madonna has outlived the culturally prescribed shelf-life of sexuality, so she's attacked at every turn. As an older woman with overt sexuality who ‘doesn't know her place’ she is seen as threatening.”

But Hanft says there’s also possibly a simpler explanation: “Jay-Z is expected to rap about MDMA, and he's cooler than Madonna, so he's cut a lot of slack."

October started off with a bang this week, as a handful of celebrity couples were the subject of some juicy stories.

Some lovebirds, like Anne Hathaway and Adam Shulman, and Drew Barrymore and Will Kopelman, celebrated wonderful events, while others, including country star Jason Aldean and his wife Jessica, were torn apart by bad news.

Hathaway and Shulman in Big Sur, Calif., in a private sunset ceremony on Sept. 29, while Barrymore and Kopelman finally together, a daughter, Olive. Also, happy news came for another couple who have been battling the press for years -- Chris Brown and Rihanna. The former pair met up multiple times in NYC this week and were at Brooklyn Barclay's Center on Oct. 3. Brown even confessed that he ended things with his girlfriend Karrueche Tran to work on his friendship with RiRi.

In other news, Aldean was caught cheating on his wife of 10 years, Jessica, with former "American Idol" contestant Brittany Kerr. The country crooner admitted to the affair, , "I had too much to drink, let the party get out of hand and acted inappropriately at a bar. I left alone, caught the bus to our next show and that's the end of the story. I ultimately ended up embarrassing my family and myself." Kerr for her "lapse in judgement."

As for Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, just when you thought their divorce drama was over, revealing that their marriage was over six months before Holmes actually filed. (That explains the speedy settlement!)

It's been another whirlwind week in the celebrity world!

The cooler weather is rolling in, and so is the Hollywood news. This week began with a brawl between two former child stars and ended with a surveillance tape.

Amanda Bynes has been making headlines recently for her erratic behavior and run-ins with the law, but it's not only the authorities she's got fuming. Although many people are comparing Bynes to Lindsay Lohan, who is now infamous for her countless arrests and court dates, Lohan herself chimed in on the situation, on Sept. 16, "Why did I get put in jail and a nickelodeon star has had NO punishment(s) so far?" Ouch.

But, the drama didn't end there. Days after Lohan posted the remark, she was arrested in NYC for clipping a pedestrian. And although she claims she never grazed the passerby, was released by the New York Police Department on Thursday, showing a blurred view of the encounter. Plus, Bynes herself was in the news again, claiming all the reports about her are false. Still on Monday, she was seen shopping at a boutique in West Hollywood where she locked herself in a dressing room for almost two hours, according to TMZ.

In happier news, Shakira announced on her website that she's with boyfriend Gerard Piqué. Also, Melissa Joan Hart welcomed her third son, Tucker, and Robbie Williams and his wife Ayda Field are the new parents to daughter Theodora Rose, both born on Sept. 18.



PARIS — "Don't take things too seriously," said Karl Lagerfeld standing next to a towering wind turbine inside Paris' Grand Palais, "especially not fashion."

Chanel's veteran designer, with trademark humor, thus summed up an important message of this Paris season.

The iconic house's fun, young collection headlined the penultimate day of Paris spring-summer 2013 show.

The fact the show had nothing whatsoever to do with the several eco-turbines constructed for the event – no doubt at a huge cost to the environment – didn't seem to matter.

Fashion insiders were busy concentrating on the myriad 81 ensembles_ which made this collection possibly the longest Chanel show in history.

A pinch of salt, too, may have been required Sarah Burton's ode to the McQueen bee, which mixed regal looking crinolines, 1950s silhouttes with bees and insect armory.

As ever, the Alexander McQueen's ready-to-wear show was Paris Fashion Week's most original, living up to the spirit of the designer who died in 2010.

Trends on Tuesday included cutouts, as featured in a strong showing from Valentino – with Jennifer Lopez on the front row – and in Paco Rabanne's signature "69" dics that exposed inches of bare flesh.

Wednesday – the grand finale of a dense and vibrant week – includes shows from Elie Saab, Miu Miu and powerhouse Louis Vuitton.

CHANEL

Fun was the healthy mantra which infiltrated Tuesday's Chanel show – a bright and diverse collection brimming with great new ideas.

Silver bauble appliques became buttons, A-line skirts were playfully short, colorful checks contrasted funkily with geometric flashes, and feather fringing billowed exuberantly.

One model in a crossing "C" swimsuit even carried a three-foot (nearly 1 meter) handbag.

A bold new fashion idea was the reworked bolero jacket with curved shoulders, often spruced up with inflated arms.

The wide T-shaped bolero silhouette spread onto sweaters and inspired many of the show's best looks.

Naturally, many of the brighter ensembles stood out, too.

Bright pink and blue felted oversized sweaters were accessorized to kitsch effect with huge pale or silver pearl necklace clusters.

There was a highly accomplished delivery of color palette also, which lifted one checked red-and-white A-line dress, with the top part sliced off.

It paired beautifully with a contrasting, yet complementary loose blue and red coat.

Another stand out piece was a white bateau-neck ensemble with check navy bands with a clean, slightly sporty vide.

Lagerfeld, who turns 80 next year, certainly hasn't let age slow him down: It's the youngest collection Chanel's seen for a while.

ALEXANDER MCQUEEN

Fashion is body armor.

At least it is for Sarah Burton, who tapped her fantastical imagination for Alexander McQueen to conjure up fashion week's most original show: Mixing insect-like armory with on-trend stiff bar jackets of the New Look, as well as 19th century crinoline.

If it sounds strange, it was – set to a backdrop of images of bees and honeycomb – with each model wearing a visor reminiscent at once of the 1950s wide hat, a cage and a beekeepers mask.

Have fashions over the ages, she seemed to ask, caged and protected us like in the natural world?

A cinched metal or tortoiseshell waist band – a recurrent Burton feature – which fanned out into a peplum in some of the looks resembled an abdomen of a wasp or queen bee.

The fascinating collection of 31 looks – which had fashion insiders amazed – was as thought-out as it was perfectly executed with metal mesh materials that sparkled mechanically.

The 1950s were visited in full skirts which mixed with structuralist fashion: Hard bodice cages, which showed the inner working of corsetry of the crinoline age, on the outside.

The last collections revisited the queen theme: Billowing structured skirts in beige, soft yellow and vermilion looked like a surrealist take on Marie Antoinette.

VALENTINO

"Suggestion is seduction," was the theme of Valentino's accomplished spring-summer 2013 show in Paris, which saw the storied Italian fashion house move subtly more sensual.

Italian design duo Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli kept their strict, high collars and didn't bare too much flesh but eased their conservative designs, in razor-thin slits and tiny transparent cutouts.

Elsewhere, diaphanous see-through outer garments in black tulle really worked well in bringing home the collection's message of provocative shyness.

Some of the outfits sported front bibs – wavy silk U-shaped bands – Valentino's more conservative version of the on-trend ruffle shown by Riccardo Tisci's show for Givenchy.

Two gorgeous red silk dresses appeared at the end, evoking the spirit of the house DNA.

Founder Valentino Garavani, 80, was seated in the front row and applauded thunderously when the show ended.

PACO RABANNE

Lydia Maurer put a spin on the house archives in her debut collection for Paco Rabanne that included myriad variations on the `60s Do-It-Yourself discs of the Rhodoid dress.

The starting point of the show was Jean Clemmer and Paco Rabanne's controversial 1960s photo collaboration called "Canned Candies," which resurfaced two years ago: Images of naked women in bold armorlike jewelry.

Maurer's show thus had a vibe of the sexual revolution with provocative dresses that bared much flesh – all held together with Rabanne's signature "69" disc.

It evoked the essence of the founder, who first cut his teeth in jewelry design.

One gold fringed number made a bold gladiator-like statement, marching past to the sound of rustling metal.

But some of the tailored ensembles let the collection down.

, a brand she first posed for back in 1996. Now the New York City style icon is back for more, helming the brand's Fall 2012 campaign shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.

It's easy to tell the two eras apart: snapped by Juergen Teller, Chloe's Nineties spots have the barefaced, brooding minimalist feel we associate with early Kate Moss, while the new ads are vibrant, sparkly and totally 2012. But remarkably, Chloe herself looks virtually the same, down to her red boyish haircut (it's almost as if the intervening years of blonde never happened).

Which explains Miu Miu's decision: with a model so nice, why not cast her twice? Plenty of other brands have felt the same way. From to , here are some models and celebs who keep on popping up again.

WHO: and designer

WHAT: Chloë Sevigny was street style bait as she arrived at the earlier this week. The lived up to her reputation as a fashion daredevil in an all-pink ensemble that only the brave could pull off. We love how Ms. Sevigny on top: The pattern in her button-up was echoed in a slightly different color palette in her blazer, but really made a visual impact (how clever). The Massachusetts native opted for a pair of pink and finished her look with a chunky to offset the otherwise feminine look. We wouldn't be surprised if most of the was looking at Sevigny instead of the show.

Kids really do say the darndest things. Just ask Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, who admits that his toughest critics can often be his two children -- Apple, 8, and Moses, 6. That's what makes the them the perfect sounding boards for Martin's music.

The singer recently confessed to playing new Coldplay songs around the breakfast table for Apple and Moses and monitoring their reactions. "Kids are very honest -- if they start singing a song it's because they like it. It's a great gauge," .

Courtney Stodden, 18, and Doug Hutchison, 52, famous for their controversial marriage, open up about their life together on VH1's "Couples Therapy." And they hope the experience of shooting the show has made their relationship stronger.

“We decided to go on the show for the elephant in the room,” Hutchison said. “Courtney and I have this vast age difference and we were interested in exploring that because at times, like any couple with stumbling blocks, we found this surfacing.”

Stodden said she agrees: “One of our main problems is communication and that’s a big factor in marriage and relationships.”

The couple has been under constant scrutiny since they said "I do," with accusations thrown at them, including questions about how genuine their relationship actually is.

“Some of the misconception are Courtney and I are not in love. That we couldn’t possibly be in love, that we are fame whores doing this for the publicity. And quite frankly that couldn’t be further from the truth,” Hutchison said. “Courtney and I are so deeply in love, it's crazy. After the show, we even became closer.”

Surprisingly, both say all the negative attention doesn’t bother them, insisting they are just like every other married couple.

“I don’t focus on the negative stuff people say; I’m a positive person,” Stodden said. “For other people not so strong, it could be hurtful, but for me, I like to remain positive. So it’s not hurtful. It doesn’t really matter what anyone says.”

“Sticks and stones can break our bones. People are welcome to their opinions. It doesn’t affect us at all. I’m surprised people focus on the negative,” Hutchison added. “We are a normal family.”

TACOMA, Wash. -- Former child TV star Danny Bonaduce says a crazed fan bit him during an event at a Washington state casino.

Bonaduce, who works these days as a radio DJ in Seattle, said the woman was taken into custody Friday, but he doesn't plan to press charges.

His face had a bright red mark a day later, when he said what he was thinking during the attack, "Bath salts," he said, referencing a designer drug linked to bizarre and violent behavior in users.

Bonaduce's wife, Amy, says her husband was treated with antibiotics.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Darius Rucker's conversion to country is now complete: He's joining the Grand Ole Opry.

Rucker performed on Tuesday night's Opry and received a visit from unannounced guest Brad Paisley, who surprised him with the invitation.

"I'm still surprised," Rucker said afterward. "They shocked me. Everybody, my wife and I'm just finding out even my kids knew. I wasn't expecting anything today. I didn't think tonight is the night I'd be asked to be a member of the Opry. That's unbelievable."

The singer rose to fame as the frontman for South Carolina rockers Hootie & The Blowfish but began to pursue his lifelong passion for country music a few years ago. He's had a multiplatinum, award-winning run since and will release his third country album early next year.

The 46-year-old is the third black performer to hold Opry membership, joining Country Music Hall of Fame members DeFord Bailey and Charley Pride.

"I felt like I was in," Rucker said. "I felt like I was accepted and I was part of the family. This is the completion of the conversion from Hootie into Darius the country singer. With the induction into the Opry, it's definitely complete now."

Rucker will be inducted into the Opry on Oct. 16. That show will air live on GAC.

Are there ways to save a friend?

Emily needed water. Badly. She needed water not in the way Pete Doherty needs a bath - more in the way a car needs a brake.

It had been a long night. We'd been to a lot of places. It was London Fashion Week and we were on a quest - me to find the good stuff, Dominic to find a good man and Emily to find a good time.

Me, I found some fashion week winners... especially Christopher Raeburn and Henrietta Ludgate.

Christopher Raeburn's won many ethical fashion awards. He re-uses military fabrics, especially parachute silk, and his 2013 ready to wear look mixes curvy ladylike shapes with cuts inspired by old school female aviators. Plus he prepped for the fashion week season by climbing 15 Welsh mountains in 24 hours for Cancer Research.

Henrietta Ludgate also has plenty of altitude. She's from the Highlands, her studio is based there and her fabrics and sourced locally. She says she's all about 'slow fashion and a minimalist silhouette' and what's not to like about that?

I felt like I'd scored. Dominic did even better. Some fashion clichés are no more, others remain. Fashion may be heading to the ethical but it ain't heading to the heterosexual - at least as far as the men who work in it are concerned. Dominic went home a happy boy. Or rather, with a happy boy

For Emily, on the other hand, the results were mixed. As were the drinks. Fashion week is basically a long corridor filled with perky twentysomethings offering you slightly sickly cocktails while a thousand people push past you looking for someone more important.

There are two main strategies:

1) When the going gets weird, the weird turn professional (aka sip, skip and tip)

a) Sip: Take one glass every show/party, clutch it tight and hold it to your lips every 30 seconds hoping you don't absorb too much alcohol.
b) Skip: the taxis - carbon footprint sure, but also your own footprint. Pack a pair of Nikes (the company has just signed a deal to use waterless dye), slip the Miu Mius into your backpack and clear your head with a brisk walk.
c) Tip: a waiter. Slip the underpaid internsomething when they offer the canapés and ensure you're not drinking on an empty stomach. This rule has nothing to do with sustainability, but its just as essential.

2) Neck as much as you can, break your Miu Mius and make an unfortunate pass at one of the male models. (aka grip, trip and rip)

Emily went for the second option. He must have been 28 years old, possibly a dancer, probably straight, definitely going out with a powerful women's magazine fashion editor. As she lunged I was almost swept off my feet by the rush of air as all the eyebrows in the room raised at once.

Dominic and I closed into riot formation and hustled her towards the toilets. Emily resisted and we staggered to a halt next to a pool table

'You need some water,' Dominic hissed. 'To the bathrooms.'

Emily dragged a slightly chewed bottle of mineral water from her clutch. 'I got some. My refill. Sod off.'

How to handle this? - I could have told her the perils of plastic bottles - most obviously, with a refill, Bisphenol A (or BPA) which is kind of like death on a stick. BPA is basically a vicious little organic compound used to harden the plastic in polyethylene terephthalate (PET) or polycarbonate plastics, most commonly found? Yup. Plastic water bottles. BPA causes cancer (breast and prostate), diabetes, thyroid damage,nerve damage, sterility, damage to unborn babies, heart disease, liver damage and brain tumors and it leaches slowly into the water over time, moving faster the warmer it gets.

I could easily have told Emily that there are safe, easy ways to remove plastic bottles from your life - there's Brita's portable water filters or Reusable Filtering Bottles, which absorb heavy metals and dangerous bacteria from tap water, making it cleaner than most mineral water. Slicker and quicker, you've got Aquapax mineral water - sold in cartons looking a little like a posh version of Innocent Smoothies. The cartons recycle and contain zero per cent BPA.

I could have told her that, if she insists on bottled water, she should ditch the exotic import and look for a local brand like Belu - British water, no air miles, 100% carbon neutral.

I could have told her all of these things... but I'm not sure she would have taken it in as she dry heaved in front of Lily Cole. So Dominic and I did the one truly sustainable thing that would solve all her problems at once, dragged her to the ladies and stuck her head under the tap.

There are moments in fashion when you recognise something that will change the landscape of our fair industry. It happened at Jil Sander in September 2010 when Raf Simons transformed neon colours into a palatable concept with that skirt. But now, the new 'it' item has arrived, storming catwalks and constructed by the real who's who in fashion. If you are looking for the defining autumn addition then this is it. Seriously. Introducing, the trouser suit.

It sidelined for years before being exalted once more, hidden in a midday shadow by asymmetric skirts and outdated preconceptions of what a trouser suit should look like. Upon the entrance of Vanessa Axente, walking in Prada's AW12 show, the revolution re-began. A black trouser suit adorned with jewels at the ankle and lapel broke us in gently to the print extravaganza that followed.

Muiccia Prada's collection read like the spoof school uniform rulebook, a guide of how not to dress. Breaking all the rules your mother ever taught you about getting dressed (unless your name's Allegra Versace), it defiantly stepped out in the midst of our braver, pattern clad bodies. Described by some as genius, others as so-bad-it's-good, there is no doubt that, as standard, Prada delivered a show stopping collection. Thank goodness the show didn't stop, the two-tone wedges weren't slowing down.

This autumn, the trouser suit isn't just about coordinating prints. It's a lesson from Italy about how and why to wear trousers; the collections are instructive and precise. In a distinctly less 1999 Ally McBeal mode, trousers are now eye-catching, powerful yet feminine. And really, what more could you want from your new sartorial best friend?

Like many fashionable themes, this trend would not have emerged without a great pinnacle of style. All hail Yves Saint Laurent. Changing womenswear from the moment his 1966 summer show opened, the tragic genius revolved the perspective of women in trousers. Yves' changed the world; the masculine black tie uniform was transformed into a palatable piece of high fashion. Yves produced the sexiest form of masculin/féminin; it will never be seen again. Original hipster Francoise Hardy had a set ordered specifically, a testament to the chicness of 'Le Smoking'. Only Saint Laurent himself might have known just how much impact that suit would have.

Blame the recession, if you will, for 'useful' fashion's renaissance. Queen Phoebe [Philo, of Celine] designs for real women in mind, making clothes that present solutions, not make us wonder 'where can I actually wear that?' The trouser suit ticks that box, the ultimate sexy-in-your-boyfriend's-clothes glamour combined with an oh-so practical edge, practically tipping the cap to high fashion. And it was everywhere.


Celine pulled out jumbo oversized coats that juxtaposed tapered trousers, all characteristically architectural, ranging across the colour spectrum. In contrast, standing proud amongst an array of well-established houses is a K-Mid favourite in Emilia Wickstead. Not edgy like Acne, or the cool, streamlined Celine solution, the New Zealander's endlessly chic display was effortlessly all there, light and breezy but sensible. Sensible is truly the word. Her simple yet effective, soon-to-be classic additions to the every day woman's closet don't pull the power card out of the pack, but just subtly lie there. An understated collection, like the designer herself perhaps, but the one and only pair of trousers in there showed what pastels for autumn are all about.

Stella McCartney intertwined a casual rock baroque mode with everyday clothes of the working woman. Introducing the pantsuit as an accessible addition, Stella's are much less 90s grey pinstripe and so, so much more elegant yet undeniably cool. But do we expect any less from the Queen of British luxury? I think not. Trousers have regained dignity as something to be desired and cherished. Merci, Mrs Prada.

Some trends do not lend themselves to maximum appeal, but like almost no other, you can rely on the trouser suit to work for you. Yes, you. From wide legs that do flatter, to uber-chic ankle-grazers, there's plenty happening. If you're in any doubt, ask yourself what would Yves want. He'd want you to go for it. So do. It suits you.

When I was younger I didn't really 'get' fashion. I mainly ran around in wellington boots, Barbour jackets (way before they were cool) and got jolly muddy in the rain. All I knew was that whatever was in Vogue was really, really beautiful and that I wanted to edit it. This desire has stayed with me becoming my ultimate point of focus. Years later and surrounded daily by thousands of pounds worth of clothes, there are still some things that I don't 'get'.

Fighting my own desires to grow old before my years and dress solely in elegant black day in day out, this season so far I've embraced both pastels and neons as a result of my Cos and Zara weaknesses and bought my first pair of extravagant shoes. They're Miu Miu, if anyone's interested. But there's one 'trend' that I just don't 'get', still. And I have tried, promise.

We couldn't be more aware of the impending Olympic Games soon to hit our already jammed packed city; needless to say I'm not impressed about this supposedly great period of British PR. The devil counterpart to this money-spinning/wasting venture is sportsluxe, a trend that perplexes me more than brothel creepers. AW12 Press day after press day saw mounds of heeled high-tops, so it looks like we're holding this trend over winter too. Hooray. As far as I'm concerned, trainers are for sport; correct me if I'm wrong but you're not going to be shooting hoops in your £200 pair of the season's highlights.

Sorry Ms McCartney, but aertex will always look like aertex whether it's my old school PE kit or Stella. While the lads might be loving an excuse to wear trackies 'on trend', it's just not cool. If you're wearing trainers on the daily commute I am still going to assume that your real shoes are under your desk. I'll hope so anyway.

Perhaps next season we will endure a resurgence of the 'jodphur' trend following British equestrian success. I pray to thee, Ralph Lauren.
